Intacs corneal implants are an option for some individuals with keratoconus who do not tolerate contact lenses or who have poor vision despite their use. In certain patients, Intacs implants may postpone or entirely avoid the need for corneal transplant. Intacs are ring shaped corneal implants that are inserted into the cornea to reshape keratoconus and improve vision. Using Intralase laser technology, the procedure may be easier for the patient.
Intacs corneal implants are approved by the FDA for keratoconus under a Humanitarian Device Exemption (HDE).
